Why should I attend HPS?
HPS is an event that is held only once a year, and is unlike anything else offered in the state. With over 250 different presenters from various professions and walks of life, this is an opportunity for you to find resources, get plugged in, and connect with professionals and students that you might otherwise not be able to meet. If you are considering a future in healthcare, you don’t want to miss out on HPS.
How has COVID-19 affected HPS?
The safety of attendees, presenters, and committee members remains our top priority as we plan for HPS 2021. In order to ensure everyone's safety, HPS 2021 will be completely remote. Please continue to check our website regularly for information regarding how HPS 2021 will run. If you have any questions feel free to email us at hps@unm.edu
Is there a cost to attend HPS?
There is no cost to attend! HPS is free to all attendees and presenters.
What is a workshop?
A workshop is a 45-minute session led by either a provider, an advisor, or a panel and can feature a multitude of topics and layout styles. Examples of workshops include presentations with a Q&A and discussion-based panels. Workshops provide you the ability to explore a particular field of healthcare, gain insight into the admissions and financial aid processes, or to talk directly with professional students and providers about their experiences and advice. We guarantee, there is something for you! See the current list of workshops here.
What is an information table?
The table session is held during a break period in the day, and provides you the opportunity to speak one-on-one with providers, schools, student organizations, and more.
Plus, you can visit as many tables as you want, whereas you can only attend up to six workshops. Check back for an updated list of tables. See the list of information tables from the previous event here.
What kinds of workshops can I expect at HPS?
Workshops are divided into one of a few categories: admissions, financial aid, professional panels, student panels, information for high school students, interesting and interactive workshops, research, and general information – which includes a breadth of topics such as specialties, programs, volunteering, and overviews of different healthcare fields. See the current list of workshops here.

Does the website show the full list of workshops and information tables?
As the date of HPS nears, we will continue to add new workshops and information tables as presenters register. What you see now might not be the full list, so continue to check back as more are added.
I can’t attend for the whole day. Should I still come?
Absolutely! The event will be available throughout the day, and you may leave whenever is necessary for you. However, this is a once-a-year opportunity, so we recommend staying for the whole event if you are able.
I’ve already attended HPS before. Why should I go again?
Each year we feature new workshops from new presenters, so there is always something new to see. However, since you can only attend up to six workshops, you will always have the opportunity to visit workshops you have not yet seen!
What can HPS offer besides pre-med information?
HPS offers workshops and information tables for a wide variety of health professions in addition to medicine, including (but not limited to) pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, PT, OT, and many more. We also include workshops on general information such as financial aid, volunteering, and research.
I’m in high school. Is it too early to go to HPS?
Not at all! We have many workshops catered towards high school students, including topics such as college admissions, the BA/MD program, and volunteering. HPS is a great opportunity to jumpstart your future career in healthcare, or to simply test the waters and help you decide if this path is right for you before attending college.
I’ve already applied to professional schools. Should I still go to HPS?
Sure! We have a number of workshops that can benefit you no matter where you are at in your application process, such as student and resident panels, financial aid resources, and research opportunities.
